The Indian women's hockey team won the hearts of the country with their sheer brilliance at the bronze medal match today. Even though the team didn't win the medal, they surely won the hearts of countrymen as well as of their opponent team, Great Britain.
After team India's loss, Great Britain team members tried to console them. The photo of the moment was shared the Great Britain Hocket Twitter handle and it was captioned, "What an amazing game, what an amazing opponent. @TheHockeyIndia you've done something special at #Tokyo2020 - the next few years look very bright."
The Indian hockey team Twitter handle in its tweet wrote that being proud of the women's hockey team will be an understatement and their performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 was a very inspirational one.
Speaking about the match, the first quarter saw team India enjoying a lot of possessions but failing to find the back of the net. The Great Britain team however broke the deadlock in the second quarter as Sarah Jones got a lucky breakthrough with a penalty corner. The team extended the lead in the same quarter with Sarah Robertson finding the back of the net to put pressure on India. However, India pushed back with defender Gurjit Kaur scoring a drag flick to restore the team's hope.
The Indian team found the equaliser in the half-time and it was Gurjit Kaur yet again who successfully shot the penalty corner. Just a couple of minutes before the ending of the second quarter, forward Navneet Kaur seemingly missed the back of the net but, Vandana Katariya showed great presence of mind as India took the lead by scoring their third goal.
Later, Great Britain found the equaliser as defender Hollie Pearne-Webb scored one. In the fourth and final quarter, with defender Grace Baldson's penalty corner score, the team took the lead with 4-3 scoreline and clinched the bronze medal.
