The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has allowed all domestic flights to operate at 100% from coming Monday onwards. The move by the government will allow airlines to operate more flights as the festive season begins across the country.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government of India has capped domestic airline capacity since May 2020. At present, the cap on domestic flight capacity is set at 85 per cent.
"After review of the current status of Scheduled Domestic Operations viz-a-viz passenger demand for air travel in terms of the purpose specified in the initial Order No 01/2020 dated 21.05.2020, the condition laid down in para 2 of the order dates 21.05.2020 as last amended vide Order No 25/2021 dated 18.09.2021, it has been decided to restore the scheduled domestic air operations with effect from 18.10.2021 without any capacity restriction," the ministry stated in its order.
It added, "The airlines/airport operators shall, however, ensure that the guidelines to contain the spread of Covid are strictly adhered to and Covid appropriate behaviour is strictly enforced by them during the travel."
