Union Minister Amit Shah announced in Parliament that over the last two years, the country has seen the establishment of 12,957 new multi-purpose primary agricultural credit societies, as well as dairy and fishery cooperative societies.
In his written response to the Lok Sabha, Shah stated that the government had sanctioned a plan in February 2023 aimed at enhancing the cooperative movement across the nation and expanding its influence to the grassroots level.
The strategy involves the creation of new multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (M-PACS), as well as Dairy and Fishery Cooperative Societies, to encompass all panchayats and villages across the nation within a five-year timeframe.
As per National Cooperative Database, a total of 12,957 new PACS, Dairy and Fishery Cooperative Societies have been registered across the country as of January 27, 2025, Shah added.
