At least three people have lost their lives, and six security personnel are missing after a landslide struck a military camp in Chhaten, Sikkim, around 7 PM on June 1. The incident followed days of intense and continuous rainfall in the region.
Rescue operations are currently underway. According to an official statement, three bodies have been recovered so far, and four individuals were rescued with minor injuries. “Four personnel with minor injuries have been rescued. Mortal remains of Hav Lakhwinder Singh, Lance Naik Munish Thakur and Porter Abhishek Lakhada recovered,” the statement said.
It added, “Rescue operations for six missing people continue. Rescue teams are working tirelessly under difficult conditions to locate the six missing personnel.”
Sikkim has been experiencing relentless rainfall in recent days, triggering landslides and raising fears of further disruptions.
