Massive crowd caused panic on the stairway route of the shrine

At least six people lost their lives and over 25 sustained injuries in a stampede at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar on Sunday, July 27, following a massive surge of devotees along the stairway route to the popular shrine, officials confirmed.

Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey stated, “Six people have died in a stampede after a huge crowd gathered at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar. I am heading to the site. A detailed report is awaited.”

The incident occurred amid an overwhelming influx of pilgrims, which led to panic and chaos at the temple premises. Upon receiving reports of the stampede, police and administrative teams were immediately dispatched to the location.

Rescue and relief efforts are currently underway, with authorities working to identify the victims and investigate the cause, which may include suspected electrocution.
