Polling for the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections took place on April 2 across 33 constituencies, three of which were uncontested

The vote counting for the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections commenced on Friday, April 4, 2025, following the polling held on April 2 across 33 constituencies, three of which were uncontested.

A total of 99 candidates, including both party-affiliated and independent contenders, participated in the election. Voter turnout was recorded at approximately 68.58 per cent.

The elections featured a fierce competition among major political parties, including the Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Rabha Hasong Joutho Mancha (RHJM), as voters decided the future leadership of the autonomous council.

In Kamrup district, 44 candidates contested, while 53 candidates vied for seats in Goalpara district. Polling stations were set up across more than 630 locations in the two districts, ensuring significant participation from both male and female voters. The election also saw several reserved constituencies for women and Scheduled Tribes.

According to the Assam State Election Commission, the total number of voters across both districts was 4,45,586, with 2,16,181 male voters, 2,29,394 female voters, and 11 voters classified as ‘Others’.
