India’s building materials sector is experiencing a hiring surge driven by rapid urbanization, infrastructure growth, and industrial expansion, according to a recent report.

The report, titled Building Materials Sector – Talent Trends and Insights, published by staffing company Ciel HR, reveals that recruitment in the sector has grown by 30 per cent between January 2023 and January 2025.

“As disposable incomes rise, we anticipate strong growth in construction, urbanization, and real estate, which will directly boost the building materials industry, creating new opportunities and ensuring long-term growth,” said Aditya Narayan Mishra, Managing Director and CEO of Ciel HR Services.

The building materials sector in India employs over 550,000 professionals. The survey, which draws insights from 105 companies in the sector, analyzed 2,763 job postings across various job portals.

The report also highlights how emerging technologies, such as 3D printing, AI, and IoT, are transforming manufacturing processes, leading to a growing demand for specialized roles in material science, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Companies are increasingly seeking expertise in green certifications and lifecycle analysis, signaling a shift toward sustainable and technology-driven operations.

In terms of in-demand roles, positions such as Plant Manager, Production Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Sales Manager, Environment and Sustainability Specialist, Design Engineer, R&D Engineer, Quality Control Specialist, Structural Engineer, and Safety Engineer are among the most sought after.

Despite the strong hiring trends, the report also points to a significant gender imbalance in the sector, with women representing only 12 per cent of the workforce – one of the lowest figures among major industries.

Geographically, the hiring trends are predominantly centered in metro cities, with 81% of job postings concentrated in Tier I cities. The cities leading the recruitment efforts include Hyderabad (14%), Bengaluru (13%), Delhi/NCR (12%), Chennai (8%), Ahmedabad (7%), and Pune (7%).

Given India’s ongoing focus on smart cities, green construction, and industrial growth, these metropolitan areas are expected to continue being the main hubs for hiring in the sector, the report concludes.
