Russia has invited leaders of several friendly nations to attend this year’s Victory Day parade

PM Narendra Modi has been formally invited by the Russian government to attend the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9, marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II.

The announcement was made by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, who confirmed that an official invitation has been sent to New Delhi and that preparations for the high-level visit are currently underway.

“It’s being worked out, it should be this year. He has an invitation,” Rudenko said on Tuesday, as quoted by Russian state news agency TASS. He also noted that Russia has extended similar invitations to the leaders of several friendly nations to attend the annual military parade held at Moscow’s iconic Red Square.

The development follows confirmation from Moscow last month that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India later this year-his first trip to the country since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
