Assam Police have arrested another individual for posting pro-Pakistan content on social media following the Pahalgam terror attack. This brings the total number of arrests in the State to ten, including a sitting MLA, for expressing support for Pakistan in the wake of the deadly incident in Jammu and Kashmir. As many as 26 persons were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the recent arrest was made in Sribhumi district on Friday night. The man was arrested for posting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ on social media. “Md Mustak Ahmed @ Sahel, son of Kabir Ahmed from Saykut village under Karimganj Police Station, was arrested last night for posting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ on Facebook,” Sarma wrote on X.

In another post on X, the CM wrote, “Cachar Police has arrested two more individuals for posting content supporting Pakistan on social media: Baktar Hussain Barbhuiya, resident of Ramnagar under Sonai Police Station and Md. Imran Hussain Borbhuiya, resident of Malugram Ganiwala under Silchar Police Station.”

Meanwhile, the CMO wrote on X, “Strict action is underway against those attempting to justify or whitewash the #PahalgamTerroristAttack So far, 10 individuals have been identified and arrested. Everyone is urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any such incidents to local authorities without delay.”

Earlier, Sarma had stated that the State would not tolerate anyone who, directly or indirectly, supported or defended Pakistan in relation to the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam. He emphasized that strict action would be taken against individuals making pro-Pakistan remarks, asserting that those who tried to justify, normalize, or downplay the killing of innocent civilians were not exercising freedom of expression, but were instead “acting against the very soul of India”.

Earlier, opposition Dhing MLA Aminul Islam from the AIUDF was taken into custody for making pro-Pakistan remarks after the attack. The AIUDF has since distanced itself from his statements. Islam has been charged with sedition and was remanded to four days of police custody on April 25.
