In what was allegedly the biggest South Asian turnout at the Met Gala in its history, Indians and Indian-origin celebrities showed out. Sticking to the dress code ‘Tailored For You,’ everyone from Shah Rukh Khan to Diljit Dosanjh and Isha Ambani opted for ensembles that were personal to them, and felt like an extension of their idiosyncratic style.
Shah Rukh Khan made his Met Gala debut in a sharp all-black Sabyasachi suit, layered with jewellery and a bold “K” pendant. Embracing dandyism, he carried a cane and completed the look with tousled hair, dark shades and leather boots.
Priyanka Chopra arrived in custom Balmain at the Met Gala, featuring a cinched waist, power shoulders, and statement jewellery. Around her neck rests Bvlgari’s Magnus Emerald Necklace featuring a 241.06-carat faceted emerald—the largest ever set by the brand.
Diljit Dosanjh fully embraced his desi regal side on the Met Gala red carpet, wearing a Prabal Gurung ensemble adorned with Golecha’s jewels and a matching turban. To complete the look, he carried the Kripan, adding a final touch of royal flair.
Natasha Poonawalla’s custom Manish Malhotra couture piece blended Indian craftsmanship with her Parsi heritage. Her look featured vintage Parsi Gara saris, a corset-cummerbund, a tailored embroidered jacket, and a sculptural lace cravat by Atelier Biser.
Mona Patel arrived at the carpet in custom Thom Browne, accompanied by Vector, a robotic dog designed by MIT and inspired by Browne’s dachshund, Hector. Decked in a tux and a 1000-carat diamond leash, Vector stunned with sensors, custom moves, and undeniable sass.
Featuring a sculptural gold corset over an off-the-shoulder black gown, mom-to-be Kiara Advani made her Met Gala debut in a custom Gaurav Gupta ensemble. “At its core, a gold sculpted breastplate with two hearts—mother and child, connected by an abstract umbilical cord,” says Gupta.
Actor and comedian Mindy Kaling appeared in a custom Harbison Studios gown complete with Marco Bicego jewellery for this year. The fitted black dress featured a bold white collar, red velvet accents, and sculptural gold buttons cascading down the length of the gown.
Isha Ambani arrived in a custom Anamika Khanna creation that honoured Indian craftsmanship with its handwoven Benarasi train. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, the look featured a historic Cartier necklace once owned by the Maharaja of Nawanagar.
Manish Malhotra made his Met Gala debut in a sculptural black sherwani cape, fusing Indian couture with dandy-inspired refinement. Embellished with intricate embroidery, glass beadwork, and a cluster of brooches from his High Jewellery line, the look had nuanced and layered detail.
Sabyasachi himself accompanied SRK to the red carpet in one of his own creations, defined by a sharply tailored ivory quilted overcoat with bold lapels, layered over a crisp white shirt and black trousers cinched with a cummerbund. A velvet cap with a jewelled plume, a multi-strand choker, and statement rings add regal drama to the look.
