India has blocked the X (formerly Twitter) account of Global Times, a Chinese state-run media outlet, citing the spread of “disinformation” related to Operation Sindoor – a counter-terrorism operation by the Indian Army aimed at dismantling cross-border terrorist infrastructure.
Global Times is a daily tabloid affiliated with the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party.
Last week, Global Times reported that the Pakistan Air Force had “shot down an Indian fighter jet in response to overnight airstrikes carried out by India at multiple locations in Pakistan,” citing unnamed sources from the Pakistani military.
India strongly criticized the Chinese state-run outlet for spreading misinformation about Operation Sindoor and urged it to “verify facts” and “cross-check sources” before disseminating false narratives.
Under Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces launched missile strikes targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation resulted in the destruction of key terror infrastructure, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) stronghold in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) base in Muridke. The strikes were carried out in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people, most of whom were tourists.
