India has made its position clear at the United Nations, stating that the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) will remain suspended until Pakistan ceases its support for cross-border terrorism.
During the UN Security Council meeting in New York on Friday evening, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, stated that Pakistan was disseminating “disinformation” regarding the IWT.
He was addressing the UNSC meeting on “Protecting Water in Armed Conflict – Protecting Civilian Lives”.
Harish stated, “India has declared that the treaty will be suspended until Pakistan, recognized as a global hub of terrorism, convincingly and permanently ceases its backing of cross-border terrorism. It is evident that Pakistan is the one that continues to breach the treaty.”
“India demonstrated remarkable patience and generosity during this time,” Harish stated, noting that Pakistan’s “state-sponsored cross-border terrorism in India aims to jeopardize the lives of civilians, disrupt religious harmony, and undermine economic prosperity.”
