India strongly opposed a proposal at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) meeting to provide $800 million in financial assistance to Pakistan. Despite India’s objections, the proposal was approved on June 3.
This marks the second instance since Operation Sindoor that Pakistan has secured international funding despite India’s resistance. Earlier, on May 9, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved the disbursement of a second tranche of approximately $1 billion to Pakistan under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF). The IMF also cleared an additional arrangement under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), granting Pakistan access to around $1.4 billion.
The approvals come amid heightened regional tensions following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam and India’s subsequent cross-border operation targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
