India’s Rishabh Pant made history on Day 4 of the first Test against England in Leeds, becoming only the second wicketkeeper ever to score twin centuries in a Test match.

India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has scripted history at Headingley, Leeds, by scoring his second century of the ongoing Test against England. With this remarkable feat, Pant became only the second wicketkeeper in Test cricket history to score twin centuries in a single match, joining Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower, who achieved the milestone in 2001 against South Africa.

Pant’s explosive innings began with a commanding 134 in the first innings, marking his seventh Test hundred and setting a new record as India’s wicketkeeper with the most centuries in Test cricket. He followed it up with a brilliant 118 in the second innings, raising his tally to eight Test centuries overall.

The 25-year-old also broke former Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara’s record for the highest match aggregate by an Asian wicketkeeper, amassing a total of 252 runs in the match. Sangakkara had previously held the record with 244 runs (230 and 14) against Pakistan in Lahore.

In addition, Pant joined an elite group of Indian cricketers to score centuries in both innings of a Test match. He becomes the seventh Indian overall to achieve this rare double, alongside legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Vijay Hazare, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rohit Sharma.

Pant’s sensational performance has not only bolstered India’s position in the Test but also cemented his place among cricket’s great wicketkeeper-batters.
