The Union Cabinet approved the Khelo Bharat Niti, describing it as a “strategic roadmap” to transform India into one of the top five sporting nations globally. Aimed at the 2036 Olympics and beyond, the policy promises to establish world-class coaching systems, enhance athlete support, and build a robust sports administration framework.
Replacing the 2001 National Sports Policy, the Khelo Bharat Niti 2025 draws from lessons learned over the past decade. It will now serve as the primary guiding document for crafting plans and schemes to strengthen India’s overall sporting ecosystem.
“This new policy reflects our experience of the last 10 years. Its core mission is to elevate Indian sports and position the country among the world’s top five by 2047,” said Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, while announcing the decision along with other key cabinet measures.
