The Enforcement Directorate (ED) informed a Delhi court on Wednesday, July 2, that the Congress party, under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, allegedly conspired to take control of assets worth Rs 2,000 crore belonging to Associated Journals Limited (AJL), the publisher of the National Herald newspaper.
Representing the ED, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju claimed that a plan was devised to create Young Indian — a company in which Sonia and Rahul Gandhi jointly held a 76% stake — with the intention of siphoning off AJL’s assets under the pretext of settling a ₹90 crore loan extended by the Congress.
“Though AJL was not generating profits, it held substantial assets valued at Rs 2,000 crore. Struggling to meet its day-to-day expenses, AJL took a ₹90 crore loan from the Congress,” Raju told the court.
