During his Trinidad and Tobago visit, PM Modi called PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar "Bihar ki Beti" and talks about her Buxar roots.

During his address to the Indian diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago on Friday, July 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi affectionately referred to his counterpart, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, as “Bihar ki Beti” — the daughter of Bihar — in a heartfelt tribute to her Indian roots.

Highlighting the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations, Modi shared that Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s forefathers hailed from Buxar, Bihar, and that she had even visited the town to reconnect with her ancestral land.

“We are not just connected by blood or surname — we are connected by belonging,” Modi said. “India embraces you. The ancestors of PM Kamla were from Bihar’s Buxar. She has visited the place. People here proudly see her as the daughter of Bihar.”

The moment was met with warm applause from the Indian community, many of whom share similar stories of migration and connection across continents. Modi’s visit marks a significant milestone in India–Caribbean ties, underscored by shared heritage and mutual respect.
