Elon Musk's X raises alarm over press censorship

Elon Musk’s X has raised concerns over press censorship in India after being ordered by the government on July 3 to block 2,355 accounts, including Reuters and Reuters World, under Section 69A of the IT Act. The directive demanded immediate compliance without explanation.

Following public backlash, the government later asked X to restore Reuters accounts. X complied with the order to avoid criminal liability but voiced alarm over the implications for press freedom.

X stated it is exploring legal options but is limited by Indian law. It urged affected users to seek legal remedies through the courts, calling the situation a threat to free expression.
