A PIL was filed in the Supreme Court seeking urgent intervention to save Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, facing execution in Yemen.

The Supreme Court of India has agreed to hear on July 14 a plea seeking to stay the execution of Keralite nurse Nimisha Priya, who is reportedly set to be hanged in Yemen on July 16 for the alleged murder of a Yemeni national in 2017.

The matter was mentioned for urgent listing on Thursday before a bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi by senior advocate R Basant. Granting the request, the court scheduled the hearing for July 14.

The bench also directed the petitioner to serve a copy of the plea to Attorney General R Venkataramani. It further noted that the Union government may inform the court at the next hearing about any steps being taken in the matter.
