Andrea Gibson was a celebrated poet both in spoken word and written formats. Their work explored gender identity, politics, activism, and queerness. In 2021, they were diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and they passed away on July 14, 2025.
An announcement made by their wife, Megan Falley, says, “Andrea Gibson died in their home (in Boulder, Colorado) surrounded by their wife, Meg, four ex-girlfriends, their mother and father, dozens of friends, and their three beloved dogs.”
Andrea Gibson was the Colorado Poet Laureate, and some of their most well-known works are Lord of the Butterflies, You Better Be Lightning, and Take Me With You.
