The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday, July 18, arrested Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The arrest came just hours after ED officials conducted fresh searches at the Baghel family residence in Bhilai, located in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district. The residence, shared by the father-son duo, was raided following the emergence of new evidence in the case.
According to reports, Chaitanya Baghel is suspected to be a key beneficiary of the alleged liquor scam, which is believed to have caused substantial losses to the state exchequer. The agency claims the scam generated over Rs 2,100 crore in illicit gains for members of a liquor syndicate.
