The centre will initially employ 1,000 people and scale up eventually

Costco Wholesale Corp is set to open its first technology centre in India, choosing Hyderabad as the location for its Global Capability Centre (GCC). The new centre will focus on technology and research operations, working in collaboration with Costco’s global teams. The facility will begin with a workforce of around 1,000 employees, with plans to scale up operations over time.

Over the years, GCCs in India have evolved from being cost-effective outsourcing hubs to strategic centres supporting core business functions. Today, these centres contribute to global operations, finance, and research and development. Several multinational corporations already operate their GCCs in India, including JPMorgan Chase, Walmart, and Target in Bengaluru, and McDonald’s, Heineken, and Vanguard in Hyderabad.

According to a joint report by Nasscom and Zinnov, the market for India’s GCCs is expected to grow significantly—from $64.6 billion in FY2024 to between $99 billion and $105 billion by 2030. This growth highlights India’s rising role as a global technology and innovation partner for major international firms.
