Congress leader Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Centre during his address in Parliament over Operation Sindoor, sharply questioning the government’s handling of India-Pakistan tensions. He opened his speech by daring PM Narendra Modi to publicly reject US President Donald Trump’s repeated assertions of mediating peace between India and Pakistan. “Donald Trump said 29 times that he stopped the war. If this is not true, then the PM should deny and say ‘Trump, you are a liar,’” Gandhi said, invoking former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s legacy of leadership and courage.

Stepping up his criticism, Gandhi alleged that the government lacked political will during the heightened border conflict. He claimed that Pakistan, emboldened by India’s apparent hesitation, demanded an immediate surrender following Operation Sindoor. “The Government of India informed the Government of Pakistan that we have no political will, we don’t want to fight. We have simply carried out this action,” he said, portraying a scenario of diplomatic weakness.

Rahul Gandhi’s remarks triggered a strong response from Treasury benches, with members objecting to what they called an “insult to the armed forces.” However, Gandhi stood firm, insisting that his questions were aimed at holding the government accountable for what he described as a failure in both strategy and communication. His statements added to the already intense debate around the operation and the Centre’s foreign policy approach.
