Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has spoken candidly about the emotional turmoil he faced during his divorce from Dhanashree Verma, revealing that false cheating allegations deeply affected his mental health. The couple, who tied the knot in 2020, parted ways in March this year after cracks began to appear in their relationship during the third year of marriage.
In a conversation with entrepreneur Raj Shamani on his YouTube channel, Chahal expressed how being labelled a “cheater” despite his loyalty and emotional investment took a personal toll.
“When my divorce happened, people accused me of being a cheater. I’ve never cheated in my life. I’m not that person. I always give, I never demand. I think from the heart for my close ones. But when people blame you without knowing the truth, it starts affecting you,” he said.
The constant public scrutiny pushed the leg-spinner into a dark mental space. Chahal revealed that he had suicidal thoughts, barely slept, and cried alone for hours. The stress was compounded by his relentless cricketing schedule, leaving him mentally exhausted and emotionally drained.
“I was tired of life, I had suicidal thoughts. I would cry for two hours straight and barely sleep. It went on for over 40 days. I couldn’t focus on cricket and felt like I desperately needed a break,” Chahal shared.
His honest admission sheds light on the immense psychological pressure faced by public figures, and the importance of mental health support—especially in the face of personal crises and public judgment.
