East Champaran, Madhubani and Gopalganj account for 3 lakh voters, but were not included in Bihar draft electoral roll: ECI

The Election Commission has confirmed that over 65 lakh voters across four districts of Bihar, including Patna, have not been included in the recently published draft electoral roll under the ongoing Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls (SRER) exercise, reported PTI.

According to officials, the omission is linked to an ongoing house-to-house verification drive being conducted by booth-level officers (BLOs). The districts affected by the large-scale exclusions are Patna, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, and Nalanda. The EC clarified that the names have not been deleted but are pending verification, the report mentioned.

The exclusion has raised eyebrows across political circles, with some leaders expressing concern over potential voter suppression in the lead-up to the state elections. Several civil society groups have also urged the Commission to ensure transparency and proper communication with affected voters.

The final electoral roll will be published after the verification and claims process concludes. Voters who find their names missing have been encouraged to approach their respective BLOs or file objections online before the deadline.
