A terrorist has been gunned down and two others are believed to be trapped in an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Akhal forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The operation, codenamed Operation Akhal, was launched jointly by the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police, following specific intelligence inputs about militant presence in the region, the Chinar Corps confirmed in a post on X.
According to officials, the militants are affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and are suspected to be involved in the recent Pahalgam terror attack. The gunfight broke out after the terrorists opened fire on security forces during a cordon-and-search operation in the dense forest zone.
The area remains under tight security as the operation continues to neutralize the remaining terrorists and ensure the safety of the region.
