Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with US President Donald Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was prepared for “constructive cooperation” to help end the war with Russia, following a phone call in which Donald Trump told him that Vladimir Putin favored a “comprehensive peace deal” over a temporary ceasefire, Axios reported.

In a brief statement, Zelenskyy confirmed that he would travel to Washington on Monday at Trump’s invitation. This will mark the second meeting between the two leaders this year, after their tense and inconclusive Oval Office encounter in February.

The conversation came shortly after the Alaska Summit between Trump and Putin ended without progress on a Ukraine ceasefire. On his return to Washington, Trump held calls with Zelenskyy and several European leaders, with his discussion with the Ukrainian president lasting more than an hour.
