Shubman Gill returned to India's T20I squad and named vice-captain

India have announced their 15-member squad for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup T20, scheduled in the UAE from 9 to 28 September. Suryakumar Yadav has been named captain, with Test skipper Shubman Gill appointed as vice-captain. The squad sees the return of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, strengthening the bowling attack. The announcement was made on 19 August by selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar after detailed discussions at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.

The tournament marks India’s return to T20I cricket after their home series against England in January. They will open their campaign against hosts UAE on 10 September in Dubai, before taking on arch-rivals Pakistan on 14 September at the same venue. Their final group-stage match will be played against Oman in Abu Dhabi on 19 September, with the side eyeing a strong start to the competition.

The selected squad features a blend of youth and experience. Alongside captain Suryakumar and deputy Gill, the batting unit includes Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Rinku Singh, and wicketkeepers Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson. In the bowling department, Bumrah leads the pace attack with Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, while the spin options include Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Axar Patel. This balance of power hitters, all-rounders, and specialist bowlers provides India with a versatile lineup for the continental event.
