The Union Cabinet approved the Online Gaming Bill, aimed at regulating the rapidly expanding digital gaming sector and curbing online betting. According to reports, once implemented, the Bill is likely to prohibit all money-based gaming transactions.
Under the proposed Regulation & Promotion of Online Gaming Act, banks and financial institutions would be barred from processing or transferring funds for real-money online games.
The Bill also seeks to ban advertisements promoting real-money gaming, while continuing to encourage E-sports and non-monetary skill-based games. It further proposes strict measures against unregistered or illegal gaming platforms.
The legislation is expected to be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
