External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar

Amid the United States’ decision to impose 50 per cent tariffs on India, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has called on Russian companies to deepen their engagement with Indian businesses. Speaking at the India-Russia Business Forum in Moscow, he highlighted India’s rapid growth and the new opportunities created through initiatives such as Make in India, which are designed to attract foreign participation.

Jaishankar underlined that India’s modernisation and urbanisation are driving fresh demands, shaped by evolving consumption patterns and lifestyle changes. He said these developments create a strong case for Russian companies to collaborate more actively with their Indian counterparts and take advantage of the emerging possibilities in India’s economic landscape.

While stressing that the India-Russia partnership has remained one of the “steadiest relationships” in current times, the minister also pointed to the need for more balanced trade between the two nations. He emphasised that the focus should be on not just sustaining the strong ties, but also broadening and equalising the trade relationship to reflect the dynamism of both economies.
