The Supreme Court on Friday, August 22, revised its earlier August 8 order regarding stray dogs, issuing fresh directions on their handling. It ruled that the animals should be released back into the same area after being vaccinated and dewormed.
The court clarified that this measure is aimed at balancing public safety with animal welfare, ensuring that healthy dogs are not displaced unnecessarily while also curbing the spread of diseases.
However, the bench specified that dogs showing symptoms of rabies or displaying aggressive behaviour must be isolated. Such animals are to be vaccinated and kept in separate shelters rather than being released back into public spaces.
