The Union Cabinet has approved India's bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to submit a formal bid for hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad. Along with this, the Cabinet has also cleared the signing of the Host Collaboration Agreement (HCA) and the provision of necessary guarantees from the concerned ministries, departments, and authorities. If the bid is successful, the central government will extend financial assistance to the Gujarat government to support the organisation of the event.

According to the official statement, the 2030 Commonwealth Games are expected to witness participation from athletes representing 72 nations. The large-scale sporting spectacle will not only draw coaches, officials, media representatives, and international tourists but is also projected to boost local businesses and contribute significantly to revenue generation.

Ahmedabad has been positioned as a strong contender for hosting the Games, with its modern sporting infrastructure and growing reputation as a hub for international events. The city is home to state-of-the-art stadiums and training facilities, with the Narendra Modi Stadium—renowned for hosting the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup final—expected to serve as the showpiece venue.
