In Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, a landslide triggered by heavy rains blocked the tunnels of the Dhauliganga Power Project, leaving 19 workers of NHPC trapped inside a powerhouse on Sunday, August 31. The incident occurred in the Ealagarh area near Dharchula, raising concerns about worker safety amid ongoing adverse weather conditions.

Officials confirmed that rescue operations are underway. Dharchula Deputy District Magistrate Jitendra Verma said that heavy machinery has been deployed to clear the debris, and efforts are being made to open the blocked route by evening. Once the way is cleared, all trapped workers will be able to come out safely.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has mobilized JCB machines to assist in the clearing operation despite continuous debris falling from the landslide. Authorities reassured that all 19 workers are safe inside the power house and will be evacuated as soon as access is restored.
