BJP legislator Agnimitra Paul was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata late Thursday night after suffering a mild brain stroke. Doctors have confirmed that her condition is currently stable, and she is under observation in the hospital’s Critical Care Unit (CCU).
The 52-year-old MLA fell ill at home shortly after returning from a stormy session of the West Bengal Assembly, where she was among five BJP MLAs suspended for disrupting proceedings. Two other suspended MLAs, Shankar Ghosh and Bankim Ghosh, also collapsed in the Assembly and were hospitalized.
A CT scan confirmed that Paul had suffered a brain stroke. Hospital sources indicated that the condition might have been triggered by stress. A senior BJP leader noted that Paul had been unwell for several days and had been advised to rest, but she chose to attend and speak in the Assembly, which may have contributed to her health issue.
This incident comes after a previous hospitalization last month for a chest infection at the same hospital.
