Nepal Army imposed a nationwide curfew after violent Gen Z protests.

The Nepali Army has taken charge of maintaining law and order after announcing a nationwide curfew on Wednesday, September 10, which will remain in effect until Thursday (September 11) morning. The move comes amid escalating unrest across the country, with security forces citing the need to stabilize the situation.

Until now, curfew enforcement had been handled by the District Administration Office, a civilian body under the Home Ministry, as per the Local Administration Act 1971. However, civilian authorities struggled to cope with the unrest, especially during Wednesday’s Gen Z protests that saw government offices and private properties vandalized and set on fire.

In response, the Army stepped in on Wednesday night, declaring it would take the lead in safeguarding public order. Officials confirmed that the prohibitory order will stay in place until 6 a.m. Thursday, with the possibility of further extensions depending on how the situation unfolds.
