Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Mizoram’s first railway station at Sairang, marking the completion and operational launch of the Bairabi–Sairang railway project. The project, hailed as an engineering marvel, is expected to transform connectivity and boost economic growth across India’s Northeast.
On Saturday, September 13, PM Modi flagged off the first trains from the newly built Sairang station, located about 12 km from Aizawl. This milestone makes Mizoram’s capital accessible by rail for the first time, a long-awaited step in improving transport links for the state.
The launch of this railway line is a key step toward the national vision of connecting every state capital by rail. Officials believe it will enhance trade, tourism, and integration of the region with the rest of the country, bringing new opportunities for development.
