The United States, United Kingdom, and France have blocked a joint Pakistan-China proposal at the United Nations to sanction the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its suicide wing, the Majeed Brigade. This move comes over a month after Washington designated both groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
The bid sought to list the BLA and the Majeed Brigade under the UN 1267 regime, which is designed to target individuals and entities associated with Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and ISIL through measures such as travel bans, asset freezes, and arms embargoes.
The US and its allies justified their opposition by stating that there was insufficient evidence linking the BLA and the Majeed Brigade to Al Qaeda or ISIL, a key requirement for inclusion under the 1267 sanctions framework.
