Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the mortal remains of legendary singer Zubeen Garg will be brought to Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati for public viewing. Fans and well-wishers will have the opportunity to pay their respects to the Assamese music icon.
Zubeen Garg, 52, passed away in Singapore on September 19, 2025, following a scuba diving incident. An autopsy has been completed in Singapore, and his body has been handed over to his accompanying team for repatriation.
The public tribute at Sarusajai Stadium is expected to be a major event, reflecting the widespread grief and admiration for the singer.
In addition, the Assam government has directed the CID to consolidate and investigate multiple FIRs filed in connection with the singer’s death, which name North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and Garg’s manager Sidharth Sarma.
