Popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, 52, passed away in Singapore on September 19, 2025, after a tragic swimming accident during a yacht trip. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that Garg removed his life jacket before entering the water, despite repeated warnings from lifeguards.
The incident occurred during a yacht outing with 18 people, including Garg. The singer was later found floating in the sea. Lifeguards immediately administered CPR and rushed him to Singapore General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The list of people accompanying Garg includes 11 individuals, among them Abhimanyu Talukdar, who booked the yacht, four members of Garg’s team, and two crew members. According to Sarma, Garg initially wore the life jacket but removed it, claiming it was oversized and hindered his swimming.
