Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, September 27, announced that lookout notices have been issued against North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and Zubeen Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma in connection with the singer’s death. Speaking during a Facebook Live session, Sarma said both individuals have been asked to come to Guwahati and record their statements on October 6. If they fail to do so, police will launch an intensified search operation.
Sarma clarified that since the Durga Puja festivities are about to begin, the state government does not want them to travel immediately. “After Dashami, they must come. They have to be in Guwahati on October 6 and present their statements,” the chief minister said. He added that if they choose not to appear before the CID, which is probing the circumstances leading to Garg’s drowning in Singapore on September 19, they can approach the court. Mahanta’s bank accounts and credit cards have already been frozen to ensure he cannot remain outside for long, Sarma stated.
The chief minister further informed that the state government is in the process of obtaining Zubeen Garg’s autopsy report from Singapore. He also confirmed that the report of the second post-mortem conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital is ready and will be part of the ongoing investigation.
