Trump announced that he will impose a 100% tariff on all films produced outside the United States.

President Donald Trump announced a 100% tariff on all films produced outside the United States, calling the move necessary to protect the domestic movie industry.

In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed that America’s film business had been “stolen” by foreign producers and vowed to “bring movie-making back home.” He said the tariffs would create a level playing field for U.S. studios and boost local jobs.

The decision follows Trump’s earlier directive to the Commerce Department and the US Trade Representative to study punitive measures against foreign film imports. The tariffs will take effect October 1, 2025.

Industry experts warn that the measure could disrupt Hollywood’s global supply chain, as major studios often shoot abroad to cut costs. Shares of entertainment companies, including Netflix and Warner Bros Discovery, dipped after the announcement.
