In a major development in the ongoing investigation into the death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, the CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested the singer’s cousin, Sandipan Garg, who is also an Assam Police Deputy Superintendent (DSP).

Sandipan Garg, who holds the post of Superintendent of Police (In-Charge) of Boko, was present on the yacht in Singapore with Zubeen Garg at the time of the tragic incident on September 19, 2025. Authorities say that his arrest comes after extensive questioning and verification of his role and presence during the events leading up to the singer’s death.

The DSP was taken into custody early Wednesday morning, October 8, and is currently being interrogated by the SIT to uncover further details of the case. The investigation is ongoing, with officials examining all possible angles and testimonies from others who were present on the yacht during the incident.

This arrest marks a significant development in the high-profile probe, which has drawn widespread public attention. Authorities continue to assure the public that the investigation will be thorough, transparent, and impartial, aiming to bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s untimely demise.

Sandipan Garg was arrested a day after Rup Kamal Kalita, an Assamese NRI based in Singapore, appeared before the SIT to give his statement. Seven other NRIs, who have also been summoned by the SIT, are yet to join the investigation.
