Sandipan Garg had accompanied Zubeen Garg to Singapore and was reportedly present at the scene when the singer tragically died while swimming in the sea on September 19.

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the untimely death of Zubeen Garg, Sandipan Garg, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Assam and cousin of the late singer, has been arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and suspended from his duties with immediate effect.

Sandipan Garg was reportedly present at the scene when Zubeen Garg died while swimming in Singapore on September 19. His arrest underscores the seriousness and expanding scope of the investigation, which has now also brought attention to the roles of close associates and festival organizers.

This marks the fifth arrest in the probe. Earlier, the SIT had taken into custody Shyamkanu Mahanta, organizer of the North East India Festival in Singapore; Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg’s manager; Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, a bandmate; and Amritprava Mahanta, a fellow singer.

Authorities have expanded the probe to examine potential financial irregularities related to the festival, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called upon central agencies, including the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax Department, to assist in the investigation.

The SIT is also issuing summons to several NRIs from Assam who were present at the yacht party in Singapore where the singer passed away. The case continues to attract national attention as officials work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the beloved artist’s death.
