The Election Commission of India has announced a ban on the use of AI-generated videos during elections, prohibiting candidates from employing such content to campaign against their opponents in any form. The Commission emphasized that this directive is mandatory for all candidates.
The decision comes ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, which are scheduled in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results expected on November 14. The Commission’s move seeks to maintain the integrity of the electoral process amid rising concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence in political campaigns.
According to the EC, the ban aims to prevent the spread of misleading or manipulated content that could influence voters unfairly. By restricting AI-generated campaign materials, the Commission intends to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
