Another powerful earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck the same southern Philippine region, just hours after a 7.4-magnitude quake had earlier shaken the area.

A powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale struck the southern Philippines on Friday, October 10, marking the second major tremor to hit the region within just 12 hours.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake was recorded off the coast of Mindanao, following an earlier 7.4-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale that rattled the same area overnight.

Both quakes originated from the same fault line, triggering widespread concern over possible aftershocks and landslides. Tsunami alerts were briefly issued for nearby coastal areas but later withdrawn after no significant waves were observed.

Emergency teams have been dispatched to assess damage and assist residents. No immediate casualties have been reported, but authorities have urged people to remain cautious and stay away from weakened structures as aftershocks continue.
