The viscera samples were sent to the CFSL after the conduct of the second autopsy at the GMCH.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the mysterious death of Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg has received his viscera report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi. SIT chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta stated that the report has been forwarded to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where a designated committee will analyze it before submitting the final post-mortem report to the SIT and the court. A copy will also be shared with Garg’s family.

The viscera samples were examined after a second autopsy conducted at GMCH, following the first in Singapore. Allegations had earlier surfaced from Garg’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, who accused the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma and event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta of poisoning him. Gupta, however, urged patience, emphasizing that conclusions will be drawn only after receiving the final medical report. Several individuals, including Sharma, Mahanta, Garg’s cousin Sandipan Garg, and others, remain in SIT custody.

Responding to criticism for not conducting on-ground inquiries in Singapore, Gupta clarified that Indian police cannot carry out investigations in another country without authorization. He explained that India has invoked the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore, requesting evidence such as CCTV footage and witness statements through official channels. Singapore’s Attorney General’s Office is currently reviewing India’s request.

The SIT remains in constant contact with the Indian High Commission in Singapore. Notices have been sent to 11 Singapore-based Assamese nationals who were present on the yacht during Garg’s final moments; only one, Rupkamal Kalita, has testified so far. Gupta added that efforts are underway to ensure the remaining witnesses cooperate and join the investigation soon.
