The mysterious death of Assam’s popular singer-actor Zubeen Garg continues to cast a shadow over the State

The Assam Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore has formally requested CCTV footage and other vital material from Singaporean authorities. According to the SIT chief, the request is currently under consideration by the Singaporean Attorney General’s office, though no definitive response has yet been received. Meanwhile, the police emphasised that the investigation remains fully on track, and the delay in obtaining foreign assistance has not impeded local procedures.

SIT officials have issued summonses to 11 individuals of Assamese origin residing in Singapore who were reportedly on the yacht with Garg on the day of the incident. To date, only one person has responded to the call and appeared for questioning. The Assam Police have stated that they cannot travel to Singapore independently for on-site probe work, and must rely on legal cooperation mechanisms under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) between India and Singapore.

Simultaneously, forensic developments are underway. The viscera report relating to Garg’s post-mortem examination has been received from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), and a committee at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will examine and submit the final report. Once finalised, the SIT plans to file the chargesheet and share documentation with both the court and Garg’s family, reinforcing their commitment to a transparent and timely investigation.
