In a major development in the Zubeen Garg death case, five accused, including Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, have been remanded to judicial custody.

Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and four others accused in connection with the death of celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg were sent to Baksa District Jail in Mushalpur on Wednesday, October 15. The court order came after their production before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Guwahati, which remanded them to judicial custody.

The five accused—Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddhartha Sharma, Sandipan Garg, Nandeswar Bora, and Paresh Baishya—were arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and CID as part of the ongoing probe into Zubeen Garg’s mysterious death. Following the court’s directive, they were taken to Baksa Jail under tight security arrangements.

Earlier, SIT Chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta stated that the police custody of five of the seven arrested individuals had concluded, and they were being produced before the court as required. He added that the investigation remains active, with witness statements being recorded and new leads under examination. The case continues to draw widespread public attention across Assam since Zubeen Garg’s untimely death on September 19, 2025.
