Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday urged the United States to impose sanctions on Russia’s entire energy sector.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the United States to widen its sanctions on Russia’s energy industry, urging Washington to target the entire sector rather than just a few major firms.

Speaking at a conference in London attended by over 20 European leaders, Zelenskyy welcomed the U.S. decision to sanction Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil but stressed that “partial measures” would not be enough to curb Moscow’s ability to finance its war.

“Sanctions must cover the whole Russian energy sector – every company that fuels Putin’s aggression,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian leader also renewed his appeal for long-range missile systems to strengthen Ukraine’s defense and deterrence capabilities as the conflict with Russia intensifies ahead of winter. He emphasized the need for continued Western support to protect Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and bolster air defenses.

The London discussions focused on energy security, post-war reconstruction, and a potential European “reassurance force” to ensure stability once active hostilities subside.

Zelenskyy’s call comes amid renewed Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities and energy facilities. Western nations have been stepping up support, but Kyiv argues that more decisive action is needed to weaken Russia’s war economy and end its aggression.
