Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has signaled that her political journey may not be over yet, suggesting she could make another run for the White House in 2028. In a candid interview with the BBC, Harris said she “possibly” sees herself as president one day, affirming that she is “not done” with public service. Describing her career as a “life of service,” she added that politics is “in [her] bones,” hinting at an enduring passion for leadership and national service.
Harris, who lost to Donald Trump in last year’s presidential race, remains optimistic that America will soon elect its first female president. She expressed confidence that her grandnieces would “in their lifetime, for sure” witness a woman in the Oval Office—and when asked if that woman could be her, she responded with a knowing smile: “Possibly.” The remarks mark her strongest hint yet at a 2028 presidential bid, reigniting speculation about her political future.
Brushing aside polls that rank her as a long shot for the Democratic nomination, even placing her behind Hollywood actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Harris emphasized that she has never let public opinion deter her ambitions. “If I listened to polls, I would not have run for my first office—or my second—and I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here,” she said. Her comments come as the Democratic Party continues to regroup following Trump’s decisive victory and ongoing criticism of Joe Biden for not stepping aside sooner.
